How Our Residencies Work
The Pilobolus Institute is dedicated to providing programs that serve the needs of each community with activities specifically tailored for each organization. A standard residency format brings either one or two Pilobolus teachers into a community for up to five days of custom-designed activities.
We recommend that the presenter identify at least one core group to work intensively with our teacher(s). Interaction with the teachers on a daily basis provides the greatest possible continuity and growth for the participants and is an important factor in the overall impact of the residency. There is, however, a great range of available classes and workshops, and it is possible to mix core-group workshops with a variety of “outside” master classes in order to reach the maximum number of participants.
We have also found that at the end of residencies, an informal public showing of the work increases the awareness, understanding, and appreciation of dance in the residency community.
One or two teacher residency or Institutes allow for in-depth choreographic workshops in which new works can be developed with the participants for a final performance for the public. Other activities can be intricately tailored to fit the specific needs of the sponsors and their community.
